Amrita Rao was born to Deepak Rao in Mumbai on the 7th of June, 1981. Her family was a fairly wealthy Saraswat Brahmin family. Even by the time she was 12 she was already well known for being a skilled dancer and performer. Her father owned an advertising agency and although she was exposed to a lot media through her father’s company, she initially did not wish to have a Bollywood career. Instead she aspired to graduate in psychology, something that she eventually did when enrolling at the Sophia college to study psychology.

During her time in Sophia College, she auditioned at an advertisement marketing Fariever Face Creame. Later she also became involved in advertisements for Bru Coffee and Cadbury’s Perk Karwa Chaut. It was these advertisements that brought her to the attention of a few of Bollywood directors, who sent a number of offers to her. She turned them down though, because she wanted to finish her education. It was only after she had received her degree in psychology did she start the profession of a Hindi actress, and since then, she has acted in many films and gained considerable fame in Bollywood and around the world. She can speak Hindi, English, Marathi, and Kokani, which is her mother tongue.

Hindi Actress Amrita Rao was already used to cameras by the time she started acting, as she had a fair amount of previous experience in modeling and other advertisements. One of her first hit movies was starring in Ishq Vishk (translated: Love Romance) directed by Ken Ghosh, the movie was a hit and immediately launched her film career. The story centers around two friends, Payal and Rajiv, who have known each other since childhood. Payal falls in love with Rajiv, but it takes him awhile to return before he realizes he feels the same way.

Other hit Hindi movies included ‘Masti’, a comedy about three friends who meet after they are all married and through a series of circumstances find themselves accused of murder. ‘Vivah’ was a drama/romance movie about a wealthy business manager who is destined to marry a traditional middle-class college student. Another hit film was ‘Main Hoon Na’, an action comedy about Ram Prasad Sharma and following his attempts to stop the villain terrorist Raghavan Datta, with many complications that result throughout the film. Other notable films that Amrita Rao has acted in are, Life Partner, Dance India Dance show, Victory, Shaurya, Welcome to Sajjanpur, Athidhi, and Heyy Babyy.
